![]() ![]() Receiver has the latest firmware and is hard wired. When I type the ip address in it comes up as not valid. The receiver is not showing up automatically as a available device. I'm guessing the shipping times/cost from CH to ZA are pretty painful.I've been trying to connect a new iPad to my 4308 and not having any luck. But yes, not exactly plug and play!Īnnoying that they don't sell that amp hat locally, I use one to power my garden speakers and it works well, especially for the price. You could then set it up to continuously stream whatever was playing out of the Denon's pre-outs, it would then just be a case of selecting it as a predefined radio station in Roon when you wanted to listen to those analog sources connected to the Denon. You might also be lucky and be able to pick up a used one of these on eBay, but at list price it would be far, far cheaper to build your own. HiFiBerry have a similar tutorial using their ADC hat, but if you can't get them in ZA that's probably not an option. I guess one option, although not without complexity, would be to build a little RPi 'Ice Cast' streamer and connect it to the Denon's pre-outs and then add that 'local IceCast stream' as a radio station in Roon. It's an obvious use case, just can't think of a nice way to achieve it. sending your analog sources to Roon (or even just the speakers) via the Denon. Yes, I can see what you're trying to do now - re. No worries, hopefully some of that post will prove useful to someone else searching for some info down the line! Whatever way you go, if you want to stream to non-HEOS speakers, you'll likely need to move away from using the HEOS app to initiate and control playback and then just treat the X4400H as an endpoint/renderer that you control via a 3rd party app/platform. You can also get a separate Amp board that piggy backs onto their new DAC2-HD HAT, you can even add a DSP board to that HAT you want to do room EQ. Something like HiFiberry's Amp2 HAT running HiFiBerryOS would give you all you needed on one board to power a single or pair of speakers. If you're primarily using Spotify then you could stream to the Denon via it's native Spotify Connect client and again use a RPi to enable a Spotify connect client for your DIY speakers. If you're mainly controlling your music playback from a PC then a desktop player that supports DLNA like Audirvana would also work, Audirvana also has a mobile client but the desktop app needs to running for it to work. If you have a Synology NAS and don't need support for online streaming services, then you could just use their AudioStation package, which supports DLNA. ![]() Although you could test it out on a PC/Mac to start. Although ideally you'd still want a separate machine (PC/NAS/NUC) to run the Roon Core on. If you don't mind splashing out and want something a bit more polished, then Roon would also achieve the above, along with all of Roon's other bells, whistles and benefits. You would then use the LMS web interface (or an LMS app) to stream music to both the Denon (via DLNA/UPnP) and the DIY speakers via DLNA or Squeezelite (again a RPi + Hat running HiFiBerryOS/Ropiee XL would be perfect for this). If you have a server, PC or NAS which is switched on 24/7 then you could install LMS ( Logitech Media Server) on it with the Material Skin and the UPnP plugins enabled. The simplest option would be to use a 3rd party mobile DLNA/UPnP app/controller like mConnect or Bubble UPnP to stream to both the Denon (via DLNA/UPnP) and any new DIY speakers (connected to say a RPi + Hat running HiFiBerryOS or Ropieee XL). You don't say what music sources you use, are you just interested in online streaming (if so which services?) and/or do you have a local music collection stored on a PC or NAS? If your aim is to stream music - as opposed to just wanting to add a 'wireless' surround speaker/channel to your Denon - then you may be better off looking at an alternative 3rd party solution to stream music to both your X4400H and any new "diy" speakers in the house, rather than using the Denon/HEOS app to control playback. Pretty sure the HEOS protocol itself is closed/licensed.
